Leave it to Hollywood to get story ideas from the unlikeliest of places. We’ve known them to nap up Creepypasta stories in the past as well as random concepts like…I dunno…The LEGO Movie. Wherever there’s a buck to be made, they’ll be sure to make it. This latest one feels a bit closer to something like a random Creepypasta. In fact, it is kind of connected to that world.

According to Deadline, Orion Pictures is working with Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment to develop a horror movie based on the creepy sculpture Momo. You probably recognize the above image, as it’s been attached to the “Momo Challenge,” which was a suicide game hoax that took off earlier this year.

In reality, it’s a sculpture from Japanese artist Keisuke Aisawa and is actually the face of a bird-like creature that was created back in 2016 as a part of a gallery exhibit in Tokyo. 

Here’s what the outlet has to say about the project:

“Orion’s untitled Momo project may widen the story beyond the contemporary digital age. Aisawa’s sculpture was rooted in the legend of Ubume, a venomous, child-snatching bird of Japanese folklore.”

With the project bringing together Lee and producer Taka Ichise, it sees the reunion of the guys who helped bring to life The Grudge and The Ring — though only one of those projects is worth a damn.
