Francesca Cabrini lived to inspire people to believe in a world of equality while building an empire of hope. In the time when women had no say or vote, but that was no set back for a religious sister, Mother Cabrini. In the latest film, Cabrini we learn about the struggles and racism she faced when she arrived in New York to assist her fellow Italian community. Starring Cristiana Dell’Anna as “Cabrini” and David Morse the Archbishop that is to provide guidance.
The Synopsis
From Alejandro Monteverde, award-winning director of Sound of Freedom, comes the powerful epic of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children. Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society’s most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.
The right Italian woman had to choose to play Cabrini and that was Cristiana Dell’Anna. She left Italy seeking an acting career in London. Dell’Anna was noticed when she took part in the english adaptation of the Italian play A Woman Alone. Her first lead role was in Moths, Rose Glass short film debut. Today she is known for HBO’s Gomorrah, The King of Laughter and Netflix’s Toscana. Among her future projects is the Italian Netflix series, Storia della mia Famiglia.

The native from Massachusetts, David Morse gathered his acting knowledge on stage first. For then years he took part in theater, reaching the New York stage success. His theatrical debut was 1980 with his participation in Inside Movers, starring John Savage. Morse’s first big opportunity was in the medical series, St. Elsewhere. Other participations he is recognized from is Contact, The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker and World War Z. The Emmy nominated actor has pending projects like The Gettysburg Address, Blood Knot and La Gloria.
I had the opportunity to virtually participate in the Cabrini press day and was connected with Cristiana Dell’Anna and David Morse. Dell’Anna discussed maintaining focus on the woman Cabrini was to portray her. While Morse spoke about his character as the Archbishop who has a slight heart change. They both discussed a particular scene they had together and its meaning where Dell’Anna had the opportunity to add her own line and more!
