Director Patty Jenkins says she’s still writing Rogue Squadron and she owes Disney a submitted script. This is of course is after the movie was essentially removed from the slate calendar completely. I think many fans thought it was dead in the water. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy always insisted it wasn’t dead.
Now on an appearance on Max’s Talking Pictures podcast Jenkins says that she is still working on the story, and that she owes Lucasfilm a script draft.

Does this mean Rogue Squadron is back on the menu? No, I don’t think it does. It seems that would be dependent on how good a script Jenkins delivers. Lucasfilm are able to just keep this one on the down low until it’s forgotten about. Therefore Jenkins has to deliver a movie they think will be a hit before they pull the trigger. I’ll not say Jenkins is uncapable of doing that, but I also don’t see any evidence so far it’s likely either.
Rogue Squadron should not be forgotten in my opinion. There’s room for it in the post-Rise of Skywalker era prior to the events of the Rey Sequel movie. However, I do feel the show would work far better as a TV series than it would a movie. The question is whether Disney would bother with a series when they can make box office from a movie version?
I’d like to see this project made. However I am not sure I have any faith in Patty Jenkins being the one to pull it off right now. For me, the dumpster fore that was WW84 is still to near, and too worrying.
What do you think, would you still like to see Rogue Squadron happening? What do you think of her comments as Patty Jenkins says she’s still writing Rogue Squadron? Is anyone sitting there at Lucasfilm waiting for the script she owes Disney? Thoughts below as always.
