I have really enjoyed the second season of Batwoman up so far. I love the contrast that Javicia Leslies’ Ryan Wilder has brought to the series. While there was nothing wrong with Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane, she fits a similar mold as everyone else on the series. They all were financially secure. This is not the case with Ryan. She had grown up in the system and was living in her car when the plane crashed nearby that gave her access to the Batsuit.
The point that I am trying to make is that this makes it difficult for Mary or Luke to relate with Ryan. Thus making their relationship difficult as their social classes don’t allow them to see eye to eye. In last week’s episode of Batwoman, we could see a little of that as she made it a point to rescue a kidnapped boy. Since it was difficult for Mary and Luke to understand why this was important, she decided to reach out to her ex-girlfriend, Angelique Martin, played by Bevin Bru, who went through the exact same thing as she did.

In Batwoman, Angelique is also a victim of the system. The years of having to survive in the streets of Gotham have made her a cushy life of crime. She is described as playful, savvy, reckless, and a free spirit. As well as the type of person you would want in your corner when things get rough. Her relationship with Ryan goes much deeper than a complicated romantic past. Something that will be explored in Batwoman.
With her debut on The CW’s Batwoman, LRM Online had the opportunity to take some time and talk with Bevin Bru about her role in the series. During our conversation, she went into details about Angelique as well as what it’s like to work with Leslie. She also shared with us her excitement to be part of the Arrowverse and playing a role in Gotham City. Last, could you guess what comic book character she would love to play in the future? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not a DC or Marvel character! Be sure to check out the interview down below!
The CW’s Batwoman airs on Sundays at 8/7c.
