The fact that I’ve had to stay home a lot more for the past year has had me venture into the world of horror films. When it comes to that genre is concerned there is a wide variety of types of films to pick from. Everything from your slasher films to your demonic possessions. Thanks to services like Shutter, I have been able to watch a lot of different scary movies.

One kind of horror film that still makes me uncomfortable if I am being honest, are those that deal with exorcisms. Some of those scenes are very intense! But I guess that’s what these films are supposed to do right? Speaking of which, this week RLJE Films and Shudder have released their horror film, The Cleansing Hour.

In this film, two friends Max and Drew run a popular webcast where they stream what they claim are live exorcisms. This is a very popular stream that is watched by millions around the world. The reality is that all of their streams are elaborately staged by paid actors. But if keep knocking at the devil’s door, at some point he is bound to answer.

During one of their webcasts, an actress becomes possessed by an actual demon and takes the crew hostage. With a growing audience, the demon forces the crew to a series of violent challenges. Threatening to expose the dark secrets that they’ve been hiding from each other. Unless they come clean and reveal that their whole show is a hoax by the end of the stream.

The Cleansing Hour is written by Aaron Horwitz and Damien LeVeck, who also serves as the film’s director. It features a cast that includes Ryan Guzman, Kyle Gallner, and Alix Angelis.

With its release this week, LRM Online had the opportunity to talk with director Damien LeVeck about the film. During our conversation, we talk about his passion for this genre.
