Kit Harrington, aka Dane Whitman was almost in Moon Knight says head writer Jeremy Slater. As you know there were a number of connections planned between Moon Knight and the other MCU projects that never materialized. In my opinion these were not needed. Moon Knight was able to stand on its own two feet as it were without them.
One new connection not mentioned until now was the idea to have Dane Whitman show up. For those unaware, all 5 of you, Whitman, played by Thrones alumni Kit Harrington has only made one Marvel appearance thus far. Harrington appeared as Whitman in Eternals. Though Whitman’s role in the movie was small, the tease of course is that he will become far more. Going by the comic books, and the tease at the end of Eternals, Whitman will eventually become the hero Black Knight. We currently have no idea where Whitman will next show up. The only rumors so far suggest he could appear in either Werewolf by Night Halloween Special or the Blade movie.
However as Slater explained recently, the character almost showed up in Moon Knight.
“We talked about Dane Whitman a little bit just because he works in a history museum and that could be a natural interaction. My feeling was if we got Kit Harrington to show up and he doesn’t suit up and he doesn’t kick ass, as a fan I’m pissed off,” the writer tells ComicBook.com
“If I see him show up I want to see him go full Black Knight. Just seeing an interaction where he walks past and goes ‘Oh hey Steven,’ who responds ‘Oh, hey Professor Whitman!’ It felt like that would be a waste of the money it would cost Kit Harington in there,” Slater adds.

“Also, there’s only so much you can do to tease those reveals before people get frustrated,” the writer concludes. “There was no space in those first two episodes to have him suit up and play Black Knight in the storyline, so we ultimately decided that it didn’t make sense to make this connection. But it was something we definitely talked about a couple days in the room.”
Again, I have to agree this was the wrong place to introduce Black Knight. I also agree that using Harrington for a walk by scene is a complete waste of time and money. I assume Harrington doesn’t work cheap. Thinking of the story we did get in Moon Knight, to introduce Black Knight would have been a waste. What is the backstory with Whitman’s family and what happened after we heard Blade warn Whitman against using the Ebony Blade in Eternals? What would he have been up to, and would he stick around for the full series?
Ultimately all this would have done is service Black Knights origin story while taking away from Marc Spector’s origin.
Although Dane Whitman was almost in Moon Knight according to head writer Jeremy Slater, I think all involved in Moon Knight made the right calls in removing cameo’s that made no sense and wasted money. I will say though, this was probably a risky movie given how the MCU normally functions, but it worked.
What do you think? Would you have liked to see Whitman in Moon Knight? Or, do you agree with me the correct call was made? As always leave any thoughts below or over on our Discord server.
