Daniel Craig Is Back As Bond! Bond 25 Is Official

We all knew it was coming, one thing for certain in the movie world is that you will never have to go too long without a new James Bond film being greenlit. There may have initially been some debate as to whether star Daniel Craig would return in the famous role of 007. However, we’ve known for some time that Craig would be back in the tuxedo for his fifth Bond outing. Yet, sense would suggest that this will be Craig’s swansong in the role as he is highly unlikely to return for a further outing as the suave British spy.

There was some wrangling between various studios for the distribution rights to the 25th Bond movie. Despite being the most enduring franchise in movie history, the distribution rights to Bond are traditionally not all that profitable. Sony who produced the previous four Daniel Craig led Bond films only made a modest profit. However, the distribution rights to Bond do hold some cultural significance and as such the international rights are a huge win for Universal.

In an official statement, Bond 25 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli confirmed what everyone had suspected for some time.

“We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th instalment of the franchise. We will begin shooting Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios in December with our partners at MGM and thrilled that Universal will be our international distributor.”

So its official folks, and yes Danny Boyle is directing. Boyle is not a director who I would immediately have suggested for a Bond film, and perhaps this is why Bond 25 intrigues me. Previous entry SPECTRE whilst being financially successful was nowhere near as loved by fans and critics as the previous Bond film to that, Skyfall. It seems right now, with the Daniel Craig movies at least, that the odd numbered movies are far better received than the even numbered entries. The good news is, that as the fifth of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies, this should be a good one, right?
