Danny Boyle Teases Potential 28 Days Later Sequel

Way back in 2002, 28 Days Later hit theaters and shook up the zombie genre for what I think was the better. Sure, they may not have been proper normal “walker,” but it showed that the franchise had some extra versatility with it. It also took great advantage of the new digital age of filmmaking, going for a rough-and-tumble style that gave it a unique look. Director Danny Boyle may have already been on the map for some after Trainspotting, but 28 Days Later was his true coming out party.

A handful of years later, 28 Weeks Later came out. It wasn’t directed by Boyle, but it held up that high bar of quality the first film set and even hinted at the possibility of more stories to tell after the virus escaped the United Kingdom. But said stories never came…yet.

Speaking with The Independent, Boyle teased a potential film to come.

“Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part,” he said. “It’s properly good. The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all. He’s concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really, but it’s a you-never-know.”

So, don’t expect this to happen any time soon, as Garland is still busy, but if the stars align, maybe in another handful of years, we’ll be getting the long-awaited 28 Months Later. Would you be up for it? Let us know your thoughts down below!
