Danny Boyle Thinks Robert Pattinson Should Play James Bond Next

Daniel Craig may still be James Bond for the next movie, but ever since he made those unsavory comments following the production of Spectre, fans have had their eyes set on the future of the franchise. Of course, a good number of people pointed to Idris Elba as the next likely contender, but there were some other names being tossed around as well. But what about someone who was actually involved in the franchise at some point? Well, I mean, sorta.

Danny Boyle, of course, was involved in Bond 25, developing a script with one of his writers, but he has since left the project due to creative differences with the studio. Regardless, he’s still someone whose opinion I’d want on the future of the series. Speaking with The Guardian, Boyle recounted watching the film High Life, starring Robert Pattinson.

“And it was so bizarre, because I was sitting there thinking: ‘Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond.’”

The outlet then went on to ask Boyle if Pattinson was too young for the role. Boyle scoffed at this remark.

“He must be in his 30s. How old was Connery? He’s ready now.”

For the record, Sean Connery was around 32 when Dr. No hit theaters, so Boyle has a point there. Just because Bond has been middle-aged in the past doesn’t mean he has to be middle-aged for all eternity.

As far as Pattinson’s fit for the role, I can actually see it. He could pull off the suave aspects pretty well — though it would be a completely different type of Bond than we’ve seen in recent memory. That being said, with him also playing Batman, who knows whether or not that’s a possibility.

What do you think of Boyle’s suggestion? And keep in mind that all the sparkle jokes have already been made, so I’d go for something a bit more creative.
