Daredevil Actor Accuses Jeph Loeb Of Racism Against Asian Characters

I personally really enjoyed the Daredevil show on Netflix, the other Netflix shows, not so much. Now a Daredevil actor accuses Jeph Loeb of racism against Asian actors on the show! Peter Shinkoda who played The Hand leader Nobu in both Daredevil and The Defenders appeared on the digital event SaveDaredevilCon. In what is a shocking story, Shinkoda accused Marvel TV boss Loeb of racism. He alleges that Loeb vetoed storylines for Asian characters because “nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people.”

“Jeph Loeb told the writer’s room not to write for Nobu and Gao, and this was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners, that nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There was three previous Marvel movies, a trilogy called Blade, where Wesley Snipes kills 200 Asians each movie, nobody gives a ****, so don’t write about Nobu and Gao. And they were forced to put their storyline down and drop it. I am privy to that storyline, they explained it to me, and they were very apologetic that they couldn’t go through with it, but their hands were tied.”

“It was a very interesting storyline about having to go [to New York] under the guise of getting some kind of transplant for medical reasons, and it was a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy was fudged, so that Nobu could get into the country and then carry out his Black Sky plans. But all that backstory was dropped, and the writers that told me they were reluctant to do it because they were so stoked about the storyline, but they were prevented. So I had to concoct this other storyline and then rock that material that I was given. Regretfully, I didn’t get to ever explore that.”

Daredevil actor accuses Jeph Loeb of racism

The transcript above was couirtesy of Screen Rant. Those are some shocking allegations to make against Loeb. Disney as a whole cannot be happy at all to have their own name linked with any racism. Never mind the current diversification attempts of Marvel Studios.  It seems Jeph Loeb and Kevin Feige didn’t see eye to eye, likewise with Ike Perlmutter before Loeb. Now that Marvel Studios is taking control of all Marvel projects under Kevin Feige, it remains to be seen what role Loeb even has now? All upcoming Disney+ content is being produced and guided by Feige, with no Loeb involvement.

One certainly wonders if this latest allegation from Shinkoda will hasten Loeb to the exit door at Disney? I must stress that without investigation, (which I feel Disney should do), then these are only allegations for now. This story does seem oddly specific for Shinkoda to have gotten his wires crossed though? It also sounds like he has not heard this from Loeb first hand. Maybe he heard this second hand from the writers room, who then explained it to Shinkoda? Either way, if those are the words that Loeb used, there is no place left for that kind of behaviour.
