After parting company with the previous incumbents, Daredevil: Born Again gets a new showrunner and new directors. The report comes from THR, and it looks like Marvel studios has moved quickly to rejig a series they were unhappy with.
Here is what the trade reports.
‘Dario Scardapane, whose recent credits include Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as well as Netflix’s Marvel show The Punisher, has been tapped to act as the new showrunner for the series, which is in the midst of a creative overhaul.’
‘Additionally, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the co-directing team behind indie genre thrillers who are coming off of directing episodes of Loki season two, have been hired to helm the remaining episodes that will constitute the first season on Disney+.’
Starting with Scardapane, there’s some good and bad. The good is that The Punisher was pretty well written, though a little stodgy and stretched out. The bad is that Amazon’s Jack Ryan is one of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen. In fact it’s not even an adaptation, it just uses the same character names from the books and makes up unrelated nonsense with them.
However Scardapane is experienced with writing and running TV shows and that’s exactly what Marvel needs.

As for the directors, I can only comment on the fact I am thoroughly enjoying Loki Season 2. So far that has been well directed, but that’s not much to go on.
As for where the series goes from here?
‘Marvel will keep some scenes and episodes that have already been shot, though other serialized elements will be injected. Scardapane will write the new episodes and new scenes, incorporating what was already shot.’
This confirms rumors we’eve heard say the same thing. The footage won’t be abandoned and started again. It seems likely the first few episodes will follow a very similar plan to the original take. However, what seems clear is there will be additions and likely tonal changes. It was rumored Matt didn’t wear a suit or act as Daredevil until 4 episodes in. That will likely change.
Lastly, former head writers will become executive producers. Also, who knows if the episode count will remain what we were told way back?
‘Benson and Moorhead will direct the new episodes to bring this first season to a close. It is unclear how many episodes it will encompass. Corman and Ord will become executive producers.’
What do you think as Daredevil: Born Again gets a new showrunner and new directors? As always, let us know in the comments.
