Daredevil: Born Again Resumes Production Under New Directors

After parting company with the previous incumbents, Daredevil: Born Again gets a new showrunner and new directors.

Andi Ortiz from The Wrap reported that the Daredevil: Born Again series’ new directors recently disclosed that it’s still in the early stages of development.

Back in October, Marvel veterans Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were enlisted to take charge as directors for the remaining production of the first season. This move followed the abrupt halt in filming during the summer due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. At that time, less than half of the 18-episode order had been completed, prompting a creative overhaul that shifted the show’s direction and leadership, leading to Benson and Moorhead taking on directorial oversight.

During an interview with TheWrap regarding the conclusion of Loki Season 2, which they directed, Moorhead and Benson revealed that despite the conclusion of the strikes, they are still in the early stages of resuming work on Daredevil: Born Again

“We have the best answer for you. So you see this space we’re in right now? This is our office, and we just found out we have an office about 45 minutes ago,” joked Benson. “And that’s what we’re at with Daredevil.”

Moorhead added a more serious note, stating that they are currently in the process of building their foundation and are examining not only the footage that has already been shot but also delving into all available Daredevil content.

“It is day zero,” Moorhead explained. “We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material. We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick.”

Benson and Moorhead have been assigned the task of directing the remaining episodes and creating new material for the previously shot episodes, as Marvel Studios decided to change the show’s direction after reviewing the footage captured before the strikes.

The directing duo gained recognition in the horror genre with films like The Endless and Symphonic before making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut on the Disney+ series Moon Knight, eventually leading to their role as primary directors on Loki Season 2.

Fans eager to see Charlie Cox reprising his role as Daredevil won’t have to wait too long. Following his appearance in She-Hulk earlier this year, Cox is set to return as the masked vigilante in Echo, premiering on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024. Additionally, actor Vincent D’Onofrio is slated to reprise his role as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk in both “Daredevil: Born Again” and “Echo.”
