Daredevil Co-Executive Producer Confirms Cancellation Was All Netflix And Marvel Was Shocked As Well

We all know by now that after a frankly stellar third season for Daredevil the show was axed by Netflix, who decided not to push ahead with the ideas for Season 4. It’s also something I’ve already said didn’t surprise me one bit. If you have been following our articles, you will know we here at LRM have been predicting this since the week Iron Fist and Luke Cage were cancelled. I think though, there’s not a single one of us who isn’t disappointed by this decision from Netflix.

However, we may have been way off the mark with some of our reasoning for why this was happening. One of the things we theorised was that Disney would be happy to let these shows die off in order to help promote their own Disney + service as the only way to see MCU TV content. That seems to make sense, but then at the same time, you have to imagine that adult content like these shows would have no place on Disney + family themed streaming service.

But a recent post on Twitter from Daredevil co-executive producer Sam Ernst seems to indicate that Marvel and by proxy Disney, were just as shocked to hear about this decision from Netflix as the production team were. Check it out.

The one blessing I can take from this news is that perhaps, there is a chance Disney could be thinking about how to carry on with some of these shows in a different platform. Currently Disney do not have a platform for adult themed shows, but when the deal finalises for Fox sometime next year, they will have Hulu at their disposal (possibly)? Is it possible they could reboot the shows on that network? Who knows at this point, and it may take time for the dust to settle and for us to get an idea if there is any chance of a reprieve for Daredevil and his Defenders comrades.

Fans have already started a campaign to have Season 4 renewed, something notably, no one had much interest in for Iron Fist or Luke Cage. Whether this will help Disney to make a positive decision though is anyone’s guess and probably involves many factors at a business level that we are simply unaware of.

Would you like to see Disney/Marvel rescue Daredevil in some way, and would you accept a PG-13 version if that was the only option? Sound off as always in the comments below.
