Daredevil Season 3 Lost Half Of Its Viewers From Season 2, New Report Finds

Have you seen Daredevil Season 3 yet? Frankly, I thought it was phenomenal and not only the best Netflix/Marvel show for a while, but the best they have ever done. You can catch my review for Season 3 HERE, but despite the many favorable critic reviews and word of mouth, it appears like the show is not catching fire with fans any longer.

Whilst Netflix never release any of their viewing figures to the public, many industry analysts still try to work out how many people are watching shows on the streaming giant. In a report by Screen Rant they claim that information they have received from analytical company Jumpshot indicates that viewership across the first week of Daredevil Season 3 was down a staggering 57% from that of Season 2. However, it should be pointed out that this analysis only covers the US and not international territories.

Normally the first week of release for a big show like this is the most important and viewership steadily drops off outside of that first week. If that is the case then it certainly points to more worrying signs for Netflix about their Marvel properties. As I am sure you are aware both Iron Fist and Luke Cage were recently cancelled and whilst we don’t know for sure, it does seem like poor viewing figures were to blame.

Perhaps Daredevil Season 3 has been caught inside that bubble of dissatisfaction with Netflix’s Marvel properties, because as I said above, the show is not only the best Marvel TV show to appear so far, it was also one of my favourite shows of the year.

Who knows, perhaps the positive word of mouth will help the show to grow over the coming weeks rather than the normal trend observed for these shows? Perhaps, not, though it is worth noting that if the analysis is accurate from Jumpshot, then Daredevil Season 3 is still tracking far better than either Luke Cage or Iron Fist‘s second season’s did. This also matches the analysis of social media posts related to the shows which we have used previously in stories to speculate on the future of the Marvel/Netflix universe.

It would be a damn shame if Daredevil does not get a Season 4 after the excellent Season 3, but that’s not something we can predict just yet.

What do you think of the analysis and have you watched Daredevil Season 3 yet? Sound off in the usual place below as always.
