IT Direct Andy Muschietti To Adapt H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine

Filmmaker Andy Muschietti has done a pretty damn good job with all he’s done so far. Mama was a solid flick and IT exceeded every damn expectation possible, really becoming the gold standard of what we can expect from a modern Stephen King adaptation. But the man is still busy. In addition to the recently-announced Attack on Titan, the Muschiettis (meaning him and his sister Barbara) also working on a live-action Robotech — but it’s not even stopping there!

Deadline is reporting that he is teaming with Warner Bros., Paramount, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way to adapt the H.G. Wells classic, The Time Machine. Andy and Barbara Muschietti have written a treatment for the movie, and as it stands, Andy will be directing it, with Barbara acting as producer, along with Jennifer Davisson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The last time we saw The Time Machine the big screen was in the Guy Pearce-starring version back in 2002, and while that movie did gross $123.8 million at the worldwide box office, given its $80 million budget, it wasn’t exactly a home run. Perhaps this take will be the one to finally capture the magic.
