With both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage having their second seasons this year on Netflix along with Iron Fist Season 2 confirmed for September, it seemed highly likely that would be it for Marvel on Netflix for 2018. We already know that The Punisher Season 2 and Daredevil Season 3 are coming along soon enough, but we’ve had no word until now of when.

In a surprising turn, it now appears as though Daredevil Season 3 will be hitting Netflix some time in 2018 and not as expected slipping into 2019. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos talking at Netflix Q2 earnings video said the following as reported by ComicBook.com.
“In the short term, we’ve got new seasons coming up, in the second half of this year, of Orange is the New Black, Ozark, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Narcos, the finale of House of Cards, the follow-up series to Making a Murderer.”
Whilst we were aware of the others mentioned here, this is certainly the first time there has been any indication that Daredevil Season 3 would release so early. It is surprising that Netflix would manage to get out a new season for all four of their Defenders line-up in one calendar year. Hey, you won’t get me complaining, whilst I was disappointed with Jessica Jones Season 2, I thought Luke Cage was a massive step up this season. So far, Iron Fist Season 2 is looking much better as well, though time will tell with that one. Daredevil for me has been the crown jewel so far of these Defenders characters, so I am keen to see what treats Season 3 will hold, especially as it looks like Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin will be the primary antagonist once more.
This does make good business sense from Netflix, after all, if you subscribe to the service only for the Marvel shows, you pretty much need a year round subscription. That’s good strategy by the streaming giant, and as long as the quality begins to pick up again after a lacklustre 2017, then it will continue to attract subscribers.
