How It Ends is an indie darling film about the end of the world. Coincidentally, the movie’s birth arrived at the beginning of the pandemic last year from the Zoe Lister-Jones and Daryl Wein. To even set the mood further, the production happened in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown and social distancing.
Here’s the official synopsis of How It Ends:
In this feel-good apocalyptic comedy, freewheeling Liza scores an invite to one last wild party before the world ends. But making it there won’t be easy, after her car is stolen, and the clock is ticking on her plan to tie up loose ends with friends and family. Accompanied by her younger self, Liza embarks on a hilarious journey across Los Angeles, running into an eclectic cast of characters.
The film stars Zoe Lister-Jones and Cailee Spaeny as the older and younger versions of Liza. Also, it has numerous guest stars, including Olivia Wilde, Fred Armisen, Whitney Cummings, Charlie Day, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Helen Hunt, Nick Kroll, Lamorne Morris, Bradley Whitford, Colin Hanks, Tawney Newsome, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Marshall Green, Bobby Lee, Glenn Howerton, Ayo Edebiri, Sharon Van Etten, Paul W. Downs, Raymond Cham Jr., Angelique Cabral, Rob Heubel, Paul Scheer, and Pauly Shore.
Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones co-wrote and co-directed the movie.

Daryl Wein’s debut feature film was Breaking Upwards that starred Zoe Lister-Jones, Julie White, and Olivia Thirlby that was an official selection of the 2009 SXSW Film Festival. He then directed numerous films with Lola Versus, Consumed, Blueprint, and White Rabbit.
How It Ends is now available digitally and playing in select theaters today.
