Dave Bautista In Talks To Join Fantasy Island

The 1977-1984 television show Fantasy Island is getting a big screen re-imagination from Sony and Blumhouse. This project is being described as a tonal mix of Westworld meets The Cabin in the Woods, where a group of contest winners arrive on an island hotel to live out their dreams only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios.

Today The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that Dave Bautista is in negotiations to join the growing cast of Fantasy Island. If the deal goes through Bautista will be playing a former guest who is still on the island against his will. His goal will be to expose the host Mister Roarke as well the island’s magical secrets.

Michael Pena is set to play Roarke and Crazy Rich Asians and Silicon Valley actor Jimmy O. Yang has also signed on for the film. The film will be directed by Jeff Wadlow who recently worked with Blumhouse on Truth or Dare. He is also writing the script for the film with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. Blumehouse and Sony will co-finance and co-produce.

Bautista will be next seen in the upcoming Avengers film as well as an action comedy from Fox titled Stuber next May. He was supposed to film the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy but that project was indefinitely put on hold after James Gunn left the project in July. Just a few days ago he tweeted that he would join Gunn over at Warner Bros. for the Suicide Squad sequel.
