Dave Bautista On Guardians 3, Working For Disney And Not Caring If He Gets Sacked

Dave Bautista has probably been the most vocal of all the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast with regards to the sacking of James Gunn by Disney. It’s been the story of the summer so far, with good reason. I’m sure you know by now just why Gunn was sacked and that Disney have no plans to change their decision.

All the Guardians expressed their displeasure at James Gunn’s sacking but Bautista has been even more vocal about it than the others. He even said that he may quit if James Gunn’s script was not used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Cue me watching The Jonathan Ross Show on UK TV on Saturday night because Dave Bautista was a guest on the talk show. The conversation got to James Gunn’s sacking inevitably and here is what Bautista told Ross.

“It’s a bitter, bitter conversation because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn. They’re putting the movie off, it’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”

To be honest this is really just Bautista reiterating what he has already said, although it’s clear as this show was live, that his stance has not softened any.

Whilst doing some more research on Bautista I also came upon a video interview with HeyUGuys, and in this interview, Bautista said he doesn’t care if he gets sacked for saying what he thinks, here’s the full comment.

“I’m aware that this could possibly cost me a job I care for very much, but at the same time it’s an integrity issue, it’s a loyalty issue. So I’m not going to bite my tongue for anything, that’s just who I am as a person. I’ve tried to actually be very choosy about what I say and the way I say it. I don’t necessarily mean to be disrespectful but at the same time, I have to say what is on my mind and in my heart. I’ve just been honest.”

The other writers at LRM and myself were discussing this at the weekend and we all feel a level of respect for Bautista that he is sticking to his own principals irrespective of the fallout. None of us want to see him sacked of course, but at the same time, if there is no Gunn, do we even want to see a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 anyway?

Any director would surely think twice about directing this movie. Anything they do well would be attributed to Gunn and anything they get wrong would be blamed on their meddling. That’s not going to attract the brightest and best to be beating down Disney’s door I wouldn’t have thought, but then who knows for sure.

Either way, we know as of right now Guardians 3 is on indefinite hold and until Disney make a decision on that front, we won’t know exactly how this will affect Dave Bautista or any of the other Guardians cast.

Let us know what you think of Bautista’s latest comments in the usual place below.
