Oh, video game movies. If you’ve been following my work here for some time, you know that I’ve always been hopeful that we’ll eventually get that video game adaptation that would launch the gold rush of video game movies, where we’d see every property under the sun get optioned and produced.

We’ve had Assassin’s Creed and Tomb Raider hit…and we’re still waiting. In the months leading up to the latter film, I slowly became convinced that there is simply too much that’s lost in the process of adapting from game to film, and as a result, we may very well not get that gold rush I was hoping for.

But that doesn’t stop me from getting excited when I news like this. Actor Dave Bautista was asked if there was a game property he’d like to star in, and he answered with the popular Gears of War franchise.

“I’ve been pursuing Gears of War for years now. I believe it’s in the hands of Universal Studios, and I have been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me asking calling them and asking them where they are with that project. Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me and I want that role.”

But can this film actually happen? Well, it’d be an expensive one for sure, but if you lock down the wrestling trio of Dave Bautista, Dwayne Johnson, and John Cena, and you have the beginnings of a cast that could actually pull off a film like this.

Do you think Dave Bautista would be a good fit as Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie? Sound off down below!
