Dave Chappelle Receives Mark Twain Prize for American Humor

Comedian Dave Chappelle’s most recent Netflix special, Sticks and Stones, didn’t sit well with everyone, within the first few minutes of the special, Chappelle called out the current culture of outrage that has tried to ruin the lives and careers of a number of celebrities.

Chappelle accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last night. While Chappelle didn’t have a speech prepared, he did say a few words, while smoking, and defended the First Amendment. You can check out what he had to say below.

“The First Amendment is first for a reason. Second Amendment is just in case the First one doesn’t work out.”

As for the latest Netflix special, it seems like Dave took the attitude of, “Ok, you folks want to be offended? Then you’ve come to the right place.” Chappelle has never had many boundaries, if he thinks something is funny he is going to use it, no matter who it offends. I thought the Sticks and Stones special was hilarious, but more so I think the world needed it, we need to be able to make jokes again.

The program will air on PBS Jan 7.
