David Koepp Is No Longer Writing Indiana Jones 5 – So Who Is?

David Koepp is no longer writing Indiana Jones 5! This is hardly surprising because Koepp was hired to write the script when Steven Spielberg was directing. With Spielberg leaving the project recently and James Mangold taking over, Koepp’s work was no longer required. Is Mangold himself writing Indy 5, or is he hiring his own writer?

Indy 5 has gone through an incredible amount of scripts. Koepp started things off, but was replaced with Solo writer Jon Kasdan, before he came back on. Now it is up to James Mangold to either write the movie himself or hire a writer he can work with. Koepp explained the Indy 5 situation when he spoke to Collider recently.

“When James Mangold came in … he deserves a chance to take his shot at it. I’d done several versions with Steven. And when Steven left, it seemed like the right time to let Jim have his own take on it and have his own person or himself write it.”

David Koepp is no longer writing Indiana Jones 5

It’s not an unusual situation for Indiana Jones to go through several scripts. Unused elements of the Raiders script were used within Temple of Doom, and ideas rejected for other (non-Indy)movies ended up in Temple as well. As for the fourth Indy movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that had several very different scripts, and many of the elements used in these drafts ended up in the final movie. David Koepp was the writer on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so I’m not upset he is off Indy 5.

I’ll guess James Mangold is both writing and directing Indiana Jones 5, but we shall have to wait and see. What do you think of the news David Koepp is no longer writing Indiana Jones 5? Leave us your thoughts below.
