Amazon’s The Lord Of The Rings Will Abandon Planned Six-Month Hiatus According To Star

Amazon's Lord of the Rings show release date

Things had only just begun with the production of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings TV show when the coronavirus struck. The original plan for The Lord of the Rings was to film the first two episodes of Season 1, then have a six-month hiatus while Season 2 was written. After that, everyone would go back to New Zealand to film the remainder of Season 1 and Season 2 back to back.

Has this plan been changed by the coronavirus? The writers have certainly had a lot more time to write than they previously did. Well, it seems they will now go straight into a back to back shoot for Season 2. As far we can tell, that shooting hiatus is canceled. Due to COVID-19, the entire production was essentially stuck in New Zealand. Now it looks like they are just going to push on with the mammoth shoot.

New Zealand is now coronavirus-free, so production can get back going again. Star Morfydd Clark, pictured below in the recent His Dark Materials TV show, recently spoke to The Daily Mail. Though her comments reveal that shooting hiatus is now canceled, Clark seems to lament what is going to be a very long shoot in New Zealand.

“I was expected to be back in Britain [planned hiatus], but not now. I’ve been calibrating in my head that I won’t be home . . . for a while”

Sounds rough, but with Clark playing Galadriel in Amazon’s adaptation of Tolkien’s Second Age mythology, this show is going to launch her career. Clark did go on to praise The Lord of the Rings showrunner J.A. Bayona. Calling the shoot so far,

“An extraordinary experience. Every day your jaw drops on the floor again. His [Bayona] imagination is just wild!”

Amazon's The Lord of the Rings

I would just give one warning about the source for this story. It’s in the source section below as always, but if you read it, a warning!

The writer doesn’t seem to know much about this show, or it’s setting. So no, Gandalf, Gollum, and Frodo won’t be appearing in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings. This show will be set thousands of years prior to the events of the movies, in a previous Age of Tolkien’s mythology. The reason Galadriel is present, is because she is literally one of the oldest characters in all of middle-Earth by the time of the movies. Galadriel is already many thousands of years old, by the time this show will be set. That’s being an immortal Elf lady for you.

So it looks like Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings show is doing away with the shooting hiatus and pushing ahead. Let’s hope there are no more delays, in case the writers decide to knock out Season 3 while they are waiting.
