DC Announces Year Long Festivities Celebrating 80 Years Of Batman

Last year we got the landmark Action Comics #1000 and 80 years of the Man of Steel, Superman. Well 2019 is set to be a milestone year for another member of DC Comic’s Trinity, Batman. On March 27th, DC will be releasing the landmark collectors issue of Detective Comics #1000 at comic shops everywhere. Along with that will be a special hardcover release Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman The Deluxe Edition which will be available March 19th. But this is only the beginning of a series of events that will celebrate 80 years of Batman around the world.

Thanks to a press release from DC we have a an idea of events that will take place starting this month to commemorate the special occasion. It will start off at SXSW in Austin, Texas where there will be multiple fan experiences, photo opportunities, limited edition merchandise as well as an Instagrammable mural. Also there will be a moment where more than 1.5 million bats will fly into the night over Austin’s famous Congress Bridge on March 15th.

The celebration then continues at various conventions featuring 80th anniversary panels. One of the highlights will be at this years WonderCon in Anaheim, where the panel Happy Birthday Batman, will take place on the actual anniversary date of March 30th. The Comic Source team will be on site to capture every moment of the event to make sure to check in with us!

This fall we will all get together to once again to celebrate Batman Day on September 21st. Last year this was the date that the DC Universe streaming service launched and gave DC fans everywhere once place to find their favorite heroes. This year, the Bat-Signal will light up in major cities worldwide. They will include an array of fan celebrations which include photo opportunities, live music, food, games and a lot more. Also for all of you looking to stay active, DC will be hosting a series of 5K and 10K runs in select cities, where you can run in your favorite Caped Crusader attire.

As if this wern’t enough to commemorate the Dark Knight’s 80th anniversary you can also join in the celebration at multiple Six Flags locations across North America in August with the hashtag #LongLiveTheBat which will include extended hours, exclusive Batman-themed experiences and special merchandise. Also hosting Batman 80th anniversary events will be Warner Bros. theme parks around the world which will include Warner Bros. Movie World Australia, Parque Warner Madrid and Warner Bros. Also AT&T customers will get insider access to Batman content like comics, merchandise, exclusive fan experiences and more. Other television broadcast partners worldwide will host Batman programming marathons this month and in September.

Being that Batman has always been my favorite superhero, I cannot wait to attend some of these events celebrating 80 years of Batman. The iconic hero was created by artist Bob Kane with writer Bill Finger and first appeared in comics back in Detective Comics #27 on March 30th, 2019. He has influenced every area of modern entertainment including comic books, television series, films, video games, theme parks, experiences, toys, collectibles apparel and lifestyle products. Batman is a multi-billion dollar icon that reigns as the most single most popular super hero ever created. Be sure to stay tuned with us at The Comic Source as we are sure to have Batman specific episodes throughout the year recapping our favorite story lines, writes and artists.
