DC FanDome 2021 Draws Triple Of The Viewership It’s Second Year

DC FanDome

For DC Comics fans around the world, last Saturday’s DC FanDome was a feast of content that we can expect from movies, television shows, comics, video games, and more! DC FanDome provided us with the second trailer for the highly anticipated film The Batman. Our first look at the new Flash film as well as finally seeing some footage with Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. So how did the event do in its sophomore year?

Well, today DC reported that DC FanDome shattered last year’s viewership with 66 million views worldwide. This is about triple of what it did last year. The teased properties certainly helped draw fans from around the world to immerse themselves in the Multiverse with exclusive first-looks, and behind-the-scenes previews from highly anticipated feature films, television series, games, comics, and home entertainment releases. It was shown in twelve different languages in over 220 countries.

On social media, DC FanDome took center stage. On Twitter, it trended #1 for eight hours in the United States. As well as Top 50 in 53 countries around the world. No doubt everyone was excited to share their excitement about their favorite announcements and footage. A big help was that it was available on over 50 live streams across multiple platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Twitter, with hundreds of other outlets re-broadcasting.

“With triple the fan traffic of last year, DC FanDome 2021 exceeded all of our expectations,” said Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks. “We continue to innovate across the company in service of our fans, and I cannot overstate the creativity and hard work that went into this highly curated, global digital event. We gave fans what they wanted – the very best of all things DC – and their engagement and response have been fantastic. We’re as excited as they are to deliver on all the great content DC FanDome highlighted.”

As excited as I am for the success of DC FanDome. I wonder if this means that we will see fewer announcements and exclusives at conventions? Why share the spotlight when you can have all the attention to yourself. Only time will tell. 2022 will say a lot about the direction of the industry.
