There are many high school sports teams that had to overcome adversity and challenges. For Summerville High School in North Carolina, the basketball team in 2008 went on one whirlwind of a season after the sudden death of their coach. Director Guido Verweyen traveled back in time with the documentary The Green Wave to look back with members of the basketball team and town that marked the momentous event.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Directed by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Guido Verweyen (After the Fire, Dance Moms), The Green Wave tells the incredible true comeback story of the Summerville High School basketball team after their coach Louis Mulkey, a dedicated firefighter dies in a catastrophic fire. Mulkey’s legacy continues on today in success stories, including AJ Green, who became an NFL star, and other former players who continue making waves as coaches, fathers, and successful businessmen.
