Looks like the cuts continue at DC. As of late we know that Tom King’s run on Batman has been shortened, the classic DC Vertigo imprint is going and they are going to stop double shipping titles next year. Now there is yet another casualty of cuts, MAD Magazine.

We have learned via Newsarama that the classic satirical magazine that was founded back in 1952 by cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman and publisher William Gaines will stop producing new content after issue #10 in October. After that the issues will have reprinted content.
“MAD will be leaving the newstand after issue #9. MAD #9 will land on newsstands in early August with all-new content,” said DC’s Manager of Comic Book Specialty Marketing Adam Phillips in a message to comic book store retailers Thursday. “Issue #10 will also contain new content and be available only via the direct market and subscriptions. Issues thereafter will feature reprinted classic MAD pieces with brand-new covers.”
With that via Twitter we have also learned that MAD Magazine Senior Editor Dan Telfer, has been “laid off” by DC. Along with serving as an editor he had also wrote for the magazine. He had served in that capacity since September 2017, when MAD was rebooted with a new issue #1.

At one point, the book was so popular it did an over 2 million print run with each issue in 1974. But nothing lasts forever so it looks like MAD could be ending soon as it makes no sense to offer subscribers reprinted content that is not relevant to the times. Like with the rest of the changes at DC, I speculate that these changes are coming from WarnerMedia as these are not the plans that we had heard about at previous conventions from DC publishers.
