Here we go again.
For years there have been reports and rumors surrounding Ben Affleck taking his leave of the DC Extended Universe. For many of us, we’ve just been waiting for the inevitable confirmation, though a recent report indicated that Affleck had a renewed interest in reprising the role. And separately, not too long ago, it was reported that Henry Cavill was on his way out following negotiations falling through for a cameo role in Shazam! Both the statement from Cavill’s rep and a video posted by Cavill later seemed to point to this being false.
However, a brand-new report from Variety seems to be pointing to neither actor returning to take on their respective characters in the future. Buried in a Flash-centric report, it’s stated that the studio is looking to re-evaluate the DC Extended Universe going forward, and that Batman and Superman movies starring Affleck and Cavill, respectively are not in the cards. They then state outright that they are looking to recast Affleck as the Caped Crusader, and that they look to focus on other characters going forward.
What is most interesting to me is that they never directly say Cavill is being recast (unlike Affleck). This leads me to believe that, if true, they simply not have any current plans to bring Superman back in any form. After all, we do know that we are heading to a female-centric universe, with Supergirl set to appear at some point. Either way, it looks like we’ll be seeing no more Affleck at all, and no Cavill in the foreseeable future.
That being said, this is just one of countless reports to drop recently, and given the history around the DCEU, we couldn’t count out the possibility that we’ll get a completely contradictory report within the next 24 hours. But what do you think of this report? Let us know down below!
