Who Is The New Green Arrow?

It’s that time of year.  All of our beloved shows are returning from their summer hiatus.  The Flash returned last week and was decent while Black Lightning also returned and was outstanding!  Season 7 looks to have an Arkham Asylum/Super Max feel to it which could be extremely interesting. How will Arrow kick of its seventh season?  Read on to find out:

The Show Starts With A Bang! — Literally.  Oliver has a dream that Diaz is chasing William and Felicity, and he shoots Felicity!  Aw man, only a dream.  It is clear from the beginning that Oliver is on his own as the whole prison stares him down at chow.  The return of Cody Rhodes, Michael Jai White, and Vinnie Jones was awesome!  They clearly team-up on Oliver in order to get revenge. LRM‘s Mike Connally and I were just talking about how we like that former villains Green Arrow took down have returned.  Because some of these villains have been developed in previous episodes, their confrontation with Oliver has more of an impact rather than in The Flash where they fly through metas so fast I often forget if I have seen them or not.

What’s even better is that since Bronze Tiger got time in the hole for having a weapon, now the others want Oliver to fill in using his family as leverage.  Man, Oliver can never catch a break, can he? I do have to say, Oliver’s time in prison is changing him.  He seemed off when speaking with Diggle and he later sacrifices someone in prison instead of joining his former enemies.  The old Oliver would put others first, but he is clearly changing, or is he being smart and watching out for himself?

The New Green Arrow — Obviously someone would take over in Oliver’s place, but who?  Diggle?  Roy Harper?  Thea?  One of the others from Team Arrow?  Green Arrow is definitely back, but the identity is a mystery.  This is a really cool way to go.  In previous seasons we are always trying to figure out who the villains behind the masks were, but now we are trying to figure out who is stepping in for Green Arrow!  As Wild Dog follows one of his misguided students, a fight ensues which leads to Green Arrow showing up again.  It’s pretty clear that not even Wild Dog knows who is behind the mask.  Either the team is faking it, or someone is on a one-man mission.

Pink Hair Don’t Care — It’s been five months and Diaz is still on the loose.  Felicity and William are in protective custody so Felicity has…colored her hair and got herself some piercings.  Alright…

New Business — Dinah has taken over as Police Captain, and Wild Dog now teaches boxing classes. The interesting part is that even though each are doing their own thing, the public seems to know they were involved with Green Arrow in some way, which could obviously have consequences.  Laurel/Black Siren is the acting DA and looks to still possibly have ulterior motives. Team Arrow comes together again to try and figure out who the new Green Arrow is.  As Dinah and the police force try to capture the new Green Arrow, a fight in a warehouse begins! (They still love their abandoned warehouses).  Wild Dog helps the new vigilante escape because he believes in what the individual is doing, while Dinah sees it as a disservice to Oliver.  Finally, they are doing something interesting with the team. They admire Oliver now for his sacrifice, but they have differing views on what his legacy should be.

Diaz Returns — Diaz finds Felicity and William while Oliver gets jumped in the prison showers.  While he’s getting jumped he is delivered a message that Felicity is dead.  This would have been interesting if The CW hadn’t released the picture above of Oliver and Felicity having a conversation…which hadn’t happened at this point yet…come on CW.  Felicity decides that she needs to fight back and not go back into witness protection since Diaz would find her anyways as she sends William away for his protection. We’ll see how this goes.

Flashback…Or Forward? — Someone new has come to Lian Yu.  Who is the mystery man?  He quickly finds Robert Queen’s grave. This bring us to…

The Pretty Awesome Ending!   We see the mysterious Green Arrow crossing another name off the list Oliver originally had. Also, Oliver goes to town on Vinnie Jones and the guy who told him Felicity was dead before he graciously surrenders to the officers.  The book to the throat was a sweet move, but I’m pretty sure smacking the guy with a 35 lb. plate then slamming it on his chest may have killed him, but hey, it was vintage Oliver! At the end, we also find out that the individual on Lian Yu is an older William as he finds Roy Harper aka Arsenal on the island. How do you think this is going to be connected?

What did you think of the season premiere?  Are you looking forward to the rest of the season?  I for one enjoyed it.  The ideas seemed fresh with numerous questions left to be answered. Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
