Deadpool 2 Releases Unflinchingly Dark & Violent IMAX Poster

Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, the character of Deadpool is known, first and foremost, for his unflinching violence. The first film was probably the first in a while to feature a Marvel character with absolutely no sense of humor. Yet despite this, the film took in tons at the box office, just breaking $750 million worldwide.

Deadpool 2 has been a juggernaut of marketing, further showing off the exploits of the heartless and humorless Merc without a Soul, and today, 20th Century Fox continues that with perhaps its most bold piece of marketing yet — a poster featuring the leads, with their heads impaled on swords.

Check it out below (Oh yeah, and this poster is NSFW):

Terrifying.

Luckily, I’m fairly confident that this exactly the type of dark and gritty stuff audiences want to see. With the birth and proliferation of the MCU, they’ve taken humor to the next level, often using it to undercut genuine tension. The fact that we have a character who is willing to be that force to be reckoned with is refreshing.

As mentioned before, the marketing for this movie has been on point for the past few months. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s able to live up to the box office of that first film.
