Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Says Marvel’s Slate Includes No Plans For A Deadpool FIlm

Now that Deadpool is once again a Marvel property, and fans hope he will soon make his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel has said plans are in the work for the X-men to come aboard, nothing definitive on Deadpool has come about.

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld says he had a look at Marvel’s schedule for the foreseeable future and the Merc with the Mouth isn’t on it. Check out what Liefeld had to say while speaking with io9 below.

“Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously. And what people don’t like is that I have assessed the schedule for the next — give or take — five years and I don’t see Deadpool on it. I don’t see that it can arrive earlier than that.”

More from Liefeld:

“My whole thing is you get access to this franchise, go give it priority. That’s not me acting pretentious. That’s me going, ‘This is a pretty valuable commodity.’ I also have three teenagers and I see how fast their interests come and go and how everything is vying for their attention at all times.”

I agree with Liefeld that the character is a hot commodity at the moment, but also have to trust Marvel when it comes to when and where to introduce such a character. When he makes his introduction is anyone’s guess. However, it’s my guess that his first appearance won’t be in a film centered on him, but it will be sort of a cameo situation just to let everyone know he’s arrived.
