Despite the lackluster response to last year’s Justice League and the overall lukewarm feelings towards the universe as a wheel, the wheels over at DC Films and Warner Bros. keep on turning. Shazam is currently in production from David F. Sandberg, and James Wan’s Aquaman is deep in post-production, with a trailer likely a couple months from hitting.
But what about some of the other seeds that were planted? Perhaps most notably, we saw inklings of Lex Luthor and Deathstroke forming a “league of [their] own” at the tail-end of Justice League. It was a cool idea, to be sure, but given how horribly that film performed, is it something they were actually planning on working towards?

Speaking with Variety, actor Joe Manganiello, who plays Deathstroke, gave a quick update, saying:
“There are things in the works. That’s all I can say.”
There always seems to be things in the works over there. Between all the characters present in the DCEU, as well as the number of films on their current slate, they definitely aren’t wanting for ideas. It’s just the matter of execution that’s been their Achille heel.
Does it really make sense to have a film focused on Deathstroke without first getting the core characters right? There were rumors about him being a villain in The Batman, but that was back when Affleck was at the helm, so who knows how this anti-hero will end up being involved.
