It’s official! The Defenders shows leaving Netflix on March 1st. Both EW and Deadline say the rights are reverting back to Disney and both expect an announcement soon by Disney to say where these will be showing up. It seems likely that Disney+/Hulu will be the new home for any Marvel content that was on Netflix. Hulu is not available outside the U.S. but those abroad do have access to Disney+ Star, which like Hulu shows mature content.
Given the mature themes in those Defenders shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and others, Hulu/Star seems most likely. Of course until Disney makes an announcement we cannot say for certain. However, it’s not like these shows are going to suddenly appear on HBO Max is it? When the Defenders shows appear on a Disney platform one could argue that they are once again canon to the MCU. However that really depends on what Marvel Studios decides for those shows. Given the current Multiverse angles, it would also be easy enough to say the Defenders shows were in another What If? version of the Multiverse.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Fisk may now be 100% MCU canon, but neither are yet confirmed to be the same person from the Defenders shows.

Whatever they decide to do the main thing is that Netflix is no longer the home for these shows. I must admit I’m now getting to the point where I’m considering only subscribing to Netflix for a couple months a year to catch up on their exclusives as the majority I don’t find that exciting. Though perhaps my wife may disagree with that plan as we have very different viewing habits. I would perhaps one day watch the three Seasons of Daredevil again, but I would never re-watch any of the other Defenders shows. They simply weren’t good enough on the whole.
What do you think about the Defenders shows leaving Netflix on March 1st? Or you happy to see these shows come back over to Disney? Thoughts below as always.
