Unless you are living under a rock you know the current state of racial unrest in America. Popular shows featuring police are being canceled and postponed to ease the tension of the country. This can be seen in the cancelation of Cops ending a 33-year run. However, Paw Patrol is a show that wouldn’t be thought of as offensive in most cases but is drawing the attention of protesters. Much of this criticism came after a tweet that supported the cause of amplifying black voices. However, the response to the tweet ranged from Defund Paw Patrol to stating disparaging messages about cops.

Paw Patrol is a show that introduces young children to first responders with a group of different dog breeds. The group works together to protect the community and gives important lessons to children. Recurring themes range from teamwork to helpfulness with every member of the team involved using their skills. The goal of the squad is to keep citizens safe and happy in the town of Adventure Bay. An example of the inclusiveness of the show is the fact that the mayor of the town is an African-American woman.
Paw Patrol would ideally be a positive way for children to learn about encounters with police moving forward. A targeted message to the youth is better than simply canceling the show as part of a broadly sweeping measure. It will be interesting to see how the show adapts to recent events. There seems to be a sense of altering the show in some fashion judging from the show’s Twitter account. It would be unfortunate for the show to be canceled but I guess it is true that every dog has its day.
