Demonic Trailer Combines The Supernatural and Tech Horrors Together from Neil Blomkamp

Demonic starring Carly Pope and directed by Neil BlomKamp

Director Neil Blomkamp made his mark on high-tech visuals in cinema with films with District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. In these past few years, he honed his visual skills from his Oats Studios that pushes more effects. Now, Blomkamp is back with a full-length feature narrative film with Demonic, in which horror is new territory for this visual master storyteller.

The film stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers.

Here’s the long synopsis of Demonic:

When Carly Spenser (Carly Pope) learns that her estranged mother Angela (Nathalie Boltt) has fallen into a coma, she reluctantly agrees to take part in a cutting-edge therapy that will allow her to tap into Angela’s still-active brain and communicate with her. Observed by physician Michael (Michael J. Rogers) and neuroscientist Daniel (Terry Chen), she enters a harrowing simulation of Angela’s mindscape where she discovers the powerful supernatural force that drove her mother to commit unspeakable acts of violence nearly two decades earlier. Afterward, haunted by terrifying visions, Carly joins forces with her old friend Martin (Chris William Martin) as she desperately tries to fend off the monstrous demon before it can enter a new host and inflict more pain and suffering on the world.

We all do know that Neil Blomkamp is a terrific storyteller in the sci-fi arena. However, supernatural horror is an entirely new realm for this director. With his recent short films such as Zygote, Kapture, Conviction, and Firebase, the director is experimenting with more visual effects and storytelling.

As indicated in this official trailer, he created a virtual realm simulation and still maintains the creature feature effects that he’s known for. For Neil Blomkamp fans, we can’t wait for this film.

Demonic is in theaters, On Demand, and available digitally on August 20.
