This year has been a complete 180 for Johnny Depp from the past couple of years. Off the heels of having won his latest defamation trial, fans are hoping that Disney will bring Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp became an international superstar in the Disney action-adventure franchise but was dropped from the franchise.
Although Captain Jack Sparrow always survives his various encounters, Depp wasn’t able to get some of that luck to avoid being dropped by Disney. After losing his defamation trial in the UK, Disney was quick to drop Dep from the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. All references to Captain Jack Sparrow have been removed from the rides at Disney World and Disneyland.
The success of the first film led to four sequels being produced, Depp earning an Oscar nomination for his performance and earning generally positive reviews in the subsequent titles. While the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise continues to remain unknown, one mystery seems to have been cleared up.

Since winning his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, fans of the actor and franchise have been campaigning for Depp to get his role back as Captain Jack Sparrow. A rumor has been swirling around for the past week or so that Depp was close to inking a $301 million deal for a Pirates of the Caribbean return that would include a role in the sixth film and a Disney+ series. Reports have been conflicting between different outlets about the rumor. Fans hoping this rumor to be true just got some bad news from Depp himself. The actor’s reps recently addressed the reports to NBC News (via E! Online), debunking the reported deal and statement that Depp was working with Disney to repair their relationship. Depp’s representative had this to say about the reports, “This is made up.”
This could be a simple way of keeping big news quiet until everything is signed but to be honest this rumor did sound too good to be true.
