According to a recent report from /Film, Taika Waititi to star in episodes of The Mandalorian Season 3. In an interview with the actor/director/creator about his work on Our Flag Means Death, and just how busy Waititi is, the outlet listed some projects he has on the go. In the initial version of this article, it was stated that Waititi directed episodes of Mando S3. However after this started to become news, the article was changed to say starring in episodes instead.
Given how busy Waititi is, I think it is highly unlikely he is directing any episodes of Mando S3. However I could be wrong? Maybe the article was changed for spoiling this fact? Then again, if that was the case I doubt they’d have changed it to state Waititi was acting in Season 3. Instead I assume they’d just completely remove it?

As for the acting side? Well, we know Waititi has already voiced the character of IG-11 in Season 1. It may seem unlikely the droid would return. However there are those intriguing rumors that Grogu will actually control a modified IG-Unit as a mech of sorts. Whilst that being IG-11 itself seems unlikely given the droid was melted in lava, it is possible Waititi is playing a new IG-Unit in Season 3 that will have the same voice?
Given how busy Waititi is, including the fact he needs to co-write and then direct the next Star Wars movie, a voice role makes much more sense. It’s possible for Waititi to record all his lines in one day if the role is voice only.
