Details Emerge Of What The (Now Dead) Boba Fett Movie Would Have Entailed

With the on-going production on John Favreau’s The Mandalorian, Star Wars first live-action TV show commencing, it was announced through Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that the proposed Boba Fett movie was pretty much dead. It’s hardly surprising given that the TV series will likely tread some similar ground to the previously in development movie.

The announcement on Boba Fett‘s now deceased status came on Friday and after the news hit EW wrote a piece claiming to have some insider knowledge of exactly what that Boba Fett movie would entail. Not only that, but the outlet claims that the movie is not completely dead and could be resurrected in the future, which is contrary to what we have heard already.

Apparently, the movie would have focused on not only Fett himself, but also the group of bounty hunters seen alongside Fett in that Star Destroyer scene from The Empire Strikes Back. So we are talking, Bossk, Dengar, 4-Lom, and IG-88 to name most of them. Would this mean that movie’s time period would have been around the time of Empire instead of the more mined period pre –A New Hope? The outlet didn’t say for sure, so we will have to keep guessing on that front.

As I always expected it seems like this would have almost been an adaptation of Tales of the Bounty Hunters, an old EU (now Legends) novel that gave each character their own story and also dealt with how each of them pursued the Millennium Falcon for Darth Vader. Now I’m not saying it would have been a straight adaptation, but I am sure the writers would have checked out the novel for ideas anyway.

Personally, I don’t think a Boba Fett movie was a good idea — not right now anyway — and I could see The Mandalorian covering off this type and tone of content in a more satisfying long-form way. By also setting The Mandalorian post Return of the Jedi they also can keep away from obvious pieces of fan service, like Vader showing up with a job for someone in episode 5 etc.

What do you think of the proposed idea for Boba Fett, are you happy the movie has been canned in favor of The Mandalorian? Shout out about your thoughts in the usual place below.
