Nicolas Cage was recently revealed to be embracing his Man of Steel roots with his involvement in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, but it looks like he’s jumping even further into superhero-dom with another animated flick, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse — at least, if this rumor is true.
According to a new report from Discussing Film, Nicolas Cage will be joining Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali, and Hailee Steinfeld in the super-stylized animated film from producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. So who will his character be? Spider-Man Noir. That’s right, Nicky C. will be portraying yet another version of the webslinger, though it’s unclear if this character will be just a cameo or a legit role.
If you think there’s no way they’re adding Spider-Man Noir to a movie, there’s another piece of evidence in the form of Funko POP! figures on their way.

If true, this seems to bode well for hardcore comic fans. Between the unique visual style of the film and its deep dive into characters that include Spider-Gwen and Spider-Man Noir, it’s clear that Sony is getting more comfortable with executing more obscure characters on the big screen.
Do you buy Nicolas Cage joining Into the Spider-Verse? Personally, I do. As much as I love him, I don’t find it too farfetched, as he’s never been one to shy away from a role in recent years. Add in his involvement in films like Superman Lives and Ghost Rider, and it seems more-than-believable than this is true. But we’ll have to wait and see.
