Disney+ Marvel Shows Will Be 6 To 8 Episodes Long

In early April, Disney announced a number of the shows that will be featured in its upcoming streaming service Disney+. Along with the rumored Loki series, the shows on Disney+ will feature Avenger alumni like Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, Sam Wilson aka Falcon, Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier, and Clint Barton aka Hawkeye. The shows will focus on these characters in the post-Avengers: Endgame Marvel Universe. Now, there is a little more insight into the upcoming shows.

According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Marvel shows coming from Disney will be much less than their past Netflix counterparts. Here is how they put it:

Part of Marvel’s next phase includes the segueing of many characters to their own series on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) negotiated deals that are separate from the movie contracts for what sources say will be six to eight episodes.

The new contracts the actors worked out do not negate appearing in future Marvel films, which would most likely lead into another round of negotiations. Currently, Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) each have one more contracted appearance, which are most likely their respective sequels. In previous reports, Chris Hemsworth has stated he is happy in continuing to play Thor on screen, striking what could turn out to be a $15-$20 million payday for the Avenger veteran.

While this writer is a fierce supporter of the Netflix Marvel shows, their one Achilles heel was the season length. With each season having a 13-episode commitment, there were moments of drag that each show suffered from. With Disney going the 6-8 episodes route, they will be able to tell tighter, focused stories that can act as sub-stories that build up or lead in to future big screen adventures.
