Disney To Be First Studio To Hit $10 Billion At Worldwide Box Office

Yeah, I guess Disney’s doing pretty well for itself. I mean, it did have a well-meaning box office disappointments in the form of Dumbo…but this is the year of Avengers: Endgame, so you can’t deny that this would be a good year for them no matter what. But just how good is pretty darn impressive. According to Deadline, this past weekend has seen them reach $9.997 billion.

You know what this means? They’ll be hitting $10 billion very very soon — and that’s without the help of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a film that had better make $1 billion for them. This makes them the first studio to do so in a calendar year. Given that this year saw the release of Avengers: Endgame ($2.798B), The Lion King ($1.656B), Captain Marvel ($1.130B), Toy Story 4 ($1.074B) and Aladdin ($1.051B), and Frozen ($919.7 million so far) it would have been surprising if this wasn’t the year for them to do so.

This is even crazier when you realize that this figure isn’t even taking the Fox movies into account. If you do, the worldwide cume is actually $11.94 billion. In short, the House of Mouse is alive and well in this day and age, and given the success of their streaming service, Disney+, I’m sure confidence in their overall brand has never been higher.

How do you feel about Disney making over $10 billion this year, and how much do you think The Rise of Skywalker will push it over? Let us know your thoughts down below!
