The world of streaming is the new wild wild west. Networks and studios are trying to figure out how much original content they need to put out there in order to make a minimum viable product that people will pay for. Just how much money do they need to put into this thing before it becomes a “must-have” subscription service for users? Yeah, I expect everyone will be making tons of mistakes on that front in the next few years, and I’d argue that some like DC Universe and CBS All Access are learning those lessons right now.

But what is going on with Disney? Their upcoming Disney+ service seems to be one that will have the most users ready to be first-day subscribers. After all, practically everyone grew up on their content. But, in addition to all the Marvel and Star Wars stuff, how much of their back catalog will be included in the service?

During a shareholders meeting, CEO Bob Iger shared that the service will house “the entire Disney motion picture library” — including stuff in the Disney Vault. But before you get too excited, that comment was amended with “at some point,” so I highly doubt it will be a day one deal. Will it be a rollout, or will it be something that just pop up one day? We won’t know for a while.

One thing I hope is that once something is on there that it stays on there. While I have heard some folks happy with DC Universe, there have been complaints in how it rotates through content. Hopefully, Disney will not follow suit. I’m sure plenty of us would rather have a rollout that saw the content sticking around forever. Then again, their use of the Vault has helped them out in the past…so who’a to say they won’t try a similar approach in the past.
