Atlantis: The Lost Empire is up next on the Disney live-action development block.

Surprising no one, Disney is diving deeper and deeper into their animation library for live-action. They’ve already struck gold with countless other titles like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. With them already having adapted their most classic gems, you knew they were going to start digging deeper. And dig they have. We know they are adapting films like 101 Dalmatians (again), Lilo & Stitch, and now, Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

I have to say, this last one is one a couple of us here at LRM have been waiting for them to remake this flick. Personally, I thought the first movie was a bit of a missed opportunity. It had great bones but its execution wasn’t quite up to snuff for me. But, in honesty, that makes it an even better candidate for a remake. And if we’re to believe the word of The Illuminerdi, that’s exactly what’s happening.

The outlet is reporting that Disney is currently in early development for Atlantis: The Lost Empire. There are sadly no details surrounding it, which makes sense since they’re at the early stages. That being said, I do think this is good news. As I stated above, the first movie had a good idea, but lackluster execution. It’s the best kind of story to be remade nowadays.

Plus, with today’s technology, they can actually realize this underwater civilization in a cool and impactful way. 

The original story followed academic Milo Thatch who sets out on a mission to discover the lost city of Atlantis. In doing so, he will effectively prove him and his grandfather right, thereby restoring his credibility within the academic community. He puts together a team to help him make that trip using a journal leading to the supposed island. Adventure ensues. You know the deal.

All I want to know is your thoughts on the probability of Tom Holland taking the role of Milo Thatch. I’d say there’s an over 80% chance he locks down that role in Atlantis: The Lost Empire. But what about you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
