Disney+ has set the stage for an exciting new adventure with the announcement of its upcoming original series, “Renegade Nell,” during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles. The eight-part series, exclusively premiering on Disney+ on March 29, 2024, is the brainchild of BAFTA-award-winning writer Sally Wainwright, known for her work on “Happy Valley,” and lead director Ben Taylor from “Sex Education.”
Set in 18th-century England, “Renegade Nell” follows the tale of Nell Jackson, portrayed by Louisa Harland from “Derry Girls.” Nell, a sharp-witted and fearless young woman, finds herself unjustly accused of murder, thrusting her into the unexpected role of the most notorious outlaw of her time. However, her journey takes a turn when a mystical spirit named Billy Blind appears, revealing to Nell that her destiny is far grander than she could have ever imagined.
The cast includes Frank Dillane as “Charles Devereux,” Alice Kremelberg as “Sofia Wilmot,” Ényì Okoronkwo as “Rasselas,” Jake Dunn as “Thomas Blancheford,” Bo Bragason as “Roxy Trotter,” Florence Keen as “George Trotter,” Nick Mohammed as “Billy Blind,” Joely Richardson as “Lady Eularia Moggerhangar,” and Adrian Lester as “Robert Hennessey, Earl of Poynton.” Pip Torrens takes on the role of “Lord Blancheford,” while Craig Parkinson stars as “Sam Trotter.”

Produced by Lookout Point, “Renegade Nell” boasts a lineup of executive producers, including Sally Wainwright, Ben Taylor, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, along with Johanna Devereaux representing Disney+. Episode directors Amanda Brotchie from “Gentleman Jack” and MJ Delaney from “Ted Lasso” add their creative touch to the series.
