Disney+ Will Put Up With Your Password Sharing…To A Point

We’re all guilty of it. Some of us share streaming service passwords with friends and family. I mean, with the sheer number of services set to come out in the near future, it’s pretty much inevitable that households around the world will begin to merge and consolidate in order to save that hard-earned cash. While I pay for MOST of my services, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t share at least one with a friend and another with a sibling.

However, ever the police force that is Disney would seemingly be the company that restrict the number of streaming users and somehow prevent users from leeching off one another. They have thought about it, as president of Disney Streaming Services, Michael Paull, said during a Disney+ media preview last week.

They recognize that it’s something that’s inevitable, but hope that users will see the value in the $6.99 a month and will act within reasons.

“We believe that consumers will see that value, and they’re going to act accordingly. They’re going to use those accounts for their family, for their household. That being said, we do recognize password sharing exists and will continue to exist.”

So, does that mean it’s the Wild West on Disney+ now? Don’t hasty. Paull went on to say the following:

“We have created some technology that’s in the backend that we will use to understand behavior. And when we see behavior that doesn’t make sense, we have mechanisms that we’ve put in place that will deal with it.”

What does this mean? We’ll see what they think, but hopefully, I won’t have to rethink my streaming service arrangement with my sibling across the country. Fingers crossed!
