Disneyland Is Still Closed But Turns 65 Today

The house that Walt built, Disneyland, turns 65 today and unfortunately no one is there to celebrate the milestone. Today in 1955 Walt Disney opened the doors to his greatest achievement.  Walt wanted to revolutionize the ways families enjoyed amusement parks.  He wanted to create what has become known as a theme park, where the minute you walk in families feel like they have entered a new place.  Sixty-five years later and multiple other theme parks around the world Walt’s vision has become a staple for the Disney company.  What was deemed impossible and crazy has now become the status quo around the entire corporation.

Over some years after Disneyland opened vendors, hotels, and restaurants started to open just outside the main gates to the park.  It took away from the magic Walt had envisioned which led him to start the most ambitious project the company would ever take on and build the Walt Disney World Resort in Kissimmee, Florida.  While Walt would never see the final project come to life his vision has continued to be the inspiration for both parks.  It wasn’t until the 1990’s that Disneyland Parks started to revamp the park and add California Adventure Park.

It is amazing to see how much Disneyland has changed over the years and still keep its original concept in place. While most of the original rides have either been replaced or refurbished the park has maintained its identity to be unique from the other parks. One of the best documentaries, The Imagineering Story, on Disney+ gives you an inside look of Walt’s vision and how it became a reality.

What started out as a dream has now turned into the most expansive theme park around the world.  Without Walt’s determination and hard work we would not have the Disney Imagineer and Innovation of new ideas that have brought countless smiles.  Although this celebration may be on the quieter side than Disney Parks would like you can rest assured that Disney fans everywhere are celebrating this monumental occasion.
