Disney+’s Out of My Mind | Amber Sealey on Authentic Touching Tale of Girl With Cerebral Palsy

Phoebe-Rae Taylor in Out of My Mind for Disney+

One little girl’s worst fear on this planet is being invisible. All she wants is to be seen and heard.

Based on the book Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper, the film delves into the inspirational story of a young teen with spastic quadriplegia and cerebral palsy trying to live an everyday life with other students, her family and to compete amongst others academically.

The film is narrated by Jennifer Aniston (Friends) and stars newcomer Phoebe-Rae Taylor, Rosemarie Dewitt (Rachel Getting Married, Poltergeist), Luke Kirby (Halloween: Resurrection, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Michael Chernus (Severance, Spider-Man: Homecoming), Courtney Taylor (Insecure, Abbott Elementary), and Judith Light (Who’s the Boss?, Transparent).

Amber Sealey directed the film from the screenplay adaptation by Draper and Daniel Stiepleman.

Here is the description of the film:

Out of My Mind is based on the best-selling novel of the same name and tells the story of Melody Brooks, a sixth grader with cerebral palsy, who has a quick wit and a sharp mind, but because she is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair, she is not given the same opportunities as her classmates. When a young educator notices her student’s untapped potential and Melody starts to participate in mainstream education, Melody shows that what she has to say is more important than how she says it.
