Disney’s Strange World | Dr. Elizabeth Rega and Dr. Stuart Sumida on the Real Science in Animation

Despite the fictional setting and story of Strange World, there is always the realism of science at the base of the film.

Dr. Elizabeth Rega and Dr. Stuart Sumida have been scientist consultants on many animated films for years. In Strange World, the scientific aspects are crucial in telling a complete story of living organisms in this one giant ecosystem.

Here is the official film synopsis:

Strange World introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob called Splat; Legend, the family dog; and a slew of ravenous creatures.

The voice cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Lui. Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon) helmed the animated film with co-director and writer Qui Nguyen (Raya and the Last Dragon co-writer).
