Today we share the first BTS images from the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary episodes. Also some new casting news and some fan theories around that. Filming has begun and the returning David Tennant and Catherine Tate have been spotted on set. Additionally we have some new casting news. Yasmin Finney has been cast as new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa’s companion and fans have begun theorizing on who she may really be?
First off let’s take a gander at those BTS images shared to social media.
We can see Tennant’s 10th Doctor alongside Tate’s Donna Noble. Tenant looks like he’s never been away, and since Tate hasn’t seemed to age at all, I daresay so does she, even though we don’t see her face here.

A for Finney, you can see the casing announcement Twitter post below. Over on the linked website, returning Who showrunner Russell T. Davies teased Finney’s character of Rose.

“Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set,” Davies says. “We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”
Finney had this to say about her casting in Who.
“If anyone would have told 8 year old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them,” Finney says in a press release. “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready.”
Fan Theory
Rose? That’s kinda strange considering Davies original companion for the Doctor was also named Rose, or is it? Fans have already begun theorising that Rose is actually the daughter of Donna Noble and her Husband Shaun Temple. After all, enough time has passed even without Doctor Who‘s time jumping for their child to have grown up. Therefore, fans think we will be introduced to Donna’s kid in the Anniversary, then Rose will become Ncuti Gatwa’s companion for the rest of the new series.
It’s all just theory for now, but I would not be surprised if this checks out. Who fans know their Doctor lore.
