We are well underway in this next phase of storytelling from Marvel Studios. Whether it’s through Disney+ or the big screen, we are getting to know the repercussions of past characters’ actions. As well as getting to know new characters that are finally jumping out of the comic book pages and into live-action. One of those characters is Echo aka Maya Lopez. She made her debut this past winter in the Marvel Studios, Disney+ exclusive, Hawkeye.
In 2023, Echo will be featured in her own series that will go by the same name also on Disney+. Today Disney announced that production on Echo is now underway in Atlanta, Georgia. Alaqua Cox will return for her role as Maya Lopez. We got to know her last winter as a deaf gang leader that was determined to make Ronin aka Clint Barton pay for his own vengeful deeds. Here is the synopsis for Marvel Studios’ Echo
Streaming exclusively on Disney+ in 2023, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez. Whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past. Reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward. “Echo” also stars Chaske Spencer (“Wild Indian,” “The English”), Tantoo Cardinal (“Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Stumptown”), Devery Jacobs (FX’s “Reservation Dogs,” “American Gods”) and Cody Lightning (“Hey, Viktor!” “Four Sheets to the Wind”), with Graham Greene (“1883,” “Goliath”) and Zahn McClarnon (“Dark Winds,” FX’s “Reservation Dogs”).
Episodes of the series are directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai).
